Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII

Über Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret MKIII

The Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret is a Marshall-in-a-box, an overdrive and preamp voiced to sound like a cranked Marshall plexi. A mode switch flips it between Super Bass and Super Lead voicings, and a presence control plus its EQ let you dial in the creamy high-mid crunch those amps are known for. It is happiest running on 18 volts, and there is a Deluxe version with more onboard tone-shaping.

For the classic plexi sound, the Dirty Little Secret has a devoted following here. One owner calls it his favorite pedal outright, the box that finally gave him the Marshall tone he always wanted but could not afford, another who owns a Friedman-style pedal says he likes the DLS better, and others simply call it pretty great and tell people they will not be disappointed. The keys to getting the most from it come up repeatedly: run it at 18 volts, where owners say it is awesome, and use the Super Bass and Super Lead modes with the presence control to find that creamy plexi crunch. Like a real Marshall, it loves a boost in front, owners push it with an SD-1, a TS or an Xotic spark boost for leads. Fair warning: it is not a cheap pedal, though used ones turn up.
