Ernie Ball 6180 VP Jr Mono Volume Pedal

Über Ernie Ball 6180 VP Jr Mono Volume Pedal

The Ernie Ball VP Jr (model 6180) is a compact passive mono volume pedal, the smaller sibling of the full-size VP. It comes in two versions matched to your pickups, the 250K for passive pickups (labeled simply Volume Pedal) and the 25K for active pickups, and there is also a VP Jr Tuner with a tuner output. Inside it uses a string-and-pulley over a volume pot, and the string is a wear item you can replace.

The VP Jr is the long-serving standard volume pedal here, some owners have run Ernie Ball volume pedals for decades, one for thirty-five years, and newer buyers are drawn by the sleek, space-saving design and the strong reviews, with the VP Jr Tuner earning praise for tuning even a low seven-string B without trouble. Two things worth getting right: match the version to your pickups (250K for passive, 25K for active), and place the pedal after your drives and before delay or modulation so it acts as a master volume, since putting it before an overdrive turns it into a gain control instead. If the heel-down or toe-down travel is off, there is a simple documented VP Jr adjustment. The honest gripes are mechanical: some owners find it does not quite reach full-off or fully-open (the treadle only turns the pot most of the way), and the internal string wears, so a few have traded theirs for a Xotic or a mini Dunlop volume pedal for reliability or to save board space.
