Greer Lightspeed Organic Overdrive

Über Greer Lightspeed Organic Overdrive

The Greer Lightspeed is a low-gain, highly transparent overdrive. It barely changes your amp's EQ or character, instead adding gain and volume with a sparkle, and runs from a clean boost up to a light crunch. Owners describe it as an extension of the amp that responds beautifully to the guitar volume, and it has become a modern boutique favourite (around 175 to 200 dollars).

The Lightspeed is a much-loved always-on drive whose whole appeal is transparency: it pushes your amp into natural overdrive without changing the tone, and it stacks beautifully with almost anything, even fuzz. The flip side of that sparkle is that some owners find its top end a bit thin or shrill, especially with single coils or bright amps, and reach for the Freq knob or roll the guitar volume back to tame it. It gets compared most often to the JHS Morning Glory, and owners treat the two as different tools: the Lightspeed is the flatter, more transparent sparkly boost, the Morning Glory adds more EQ, body and bark. A favourite way to run it is as a base sound, always on to push the amp, with everything else stacked into it; a few owners even run two Lightspeeds, backing off one's Freq so they do not get too bright together. It is not cheap and there is no obvious budget clone, so owners tend to hunt the used market.
