J. Rockett Archer Overdrive

Über J. Rockett Archer Overdrive

The J. Rockett Archer is one of the best-known Klon clones, with the characteristic Klon mid-boost that makes it sound amp-like. It comes in a few versions: the standard Archer, the gold Archer Ikon, and the silver Jeff Beck signature, which J. Rockett developed with Beck. Like the Klon, it is a low-gain overdrive and boost.

Owners rate the Archer as one of the great Klon clones and tend to treat it as a keeper: a favourite low-gain drive that pairs especially well with Fender amps like a Deluxe Reverb. The way most run it is as a low-gain, always-on boost to push the amp or another overdrive, cleaning up with the guitar volume, thanks to its amp-like mid-boost. On the versions, owners split: the gold Ikon is a popular pick, while the Jeff Beck signature draws the usual artist-model scepticism, some preferring the cheaper Silver or Ikon and others reckoning the Jeff is a genuine step up. One quirk worth knowing: like other clones that are true to the original Klon circuit, its internal charge pump can cause ringing or noise with some digital pedals, which owners cure by re-ordering the board (delays and reverb later, or after the amp) and making sure the power is properly isolated.
