Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier

Über Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier

The Dual Rectifier is a 100 watt tube head handbuilt in Petaluma, California, with four 6L6 power tubes, five 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 5U4 rectifier tubes. Every version switches between tube and silicon diode rectification and has a Bold/Spongy power switch and a bias switch for 6L6 or EL34 tubes. Beyond that, the heads here fall into three generations.

The heads of the 1990s have two channels and clean, vintage and modern modes. The earliest, Revisions D and F, date from around 1992, with a chrome chassis, a fixed power cord and, on some, the older Mark III output transformer. Revision G began in 1994: early ones have a small logo and still the fixed cord, later ones a large Mesa badge and a detachable cord. A two-channel rackmount version exists too. Heads from the 2000s have three channels: channel 1 clean or pushed, channels 2 and 3 each with Raw, Vintage and Modern modes, and five speaker jacks (one 16, two 8 and two 4 ohm). On the later Multi-Watt heads each channel runs at 50 or 100 watts, with a tuner out with mute and a new two-row footswitch; one weighs about 41 lb at 10 x 25 1/2 x 9 7/8 inches.

Earlier heads mostly have a parallel effects loop; a series conversion is a common mod. Retubing is the usual service, older heads have often had pots, jacks or capacitors seen to, and some carry gain mods or a replacement output transformer. The footswitch is often missing, so check it comes with the head.
