The Cali76 is Origin Effects's studio-grade compressor, a pedal take on the classic 1176 FET compressor, and owners hold it in very high regard: transparent, punchy, with rich sustain, and to many ears one of the best compressor pedals there is. Several call it awesome and a favourite, a studio-quality sound they will happily pay for, though a few note it takes a moment to get used to the way it compresses. Two practical points: it uses a buffered bypass rather than true bypass, and it is expensive, costing well over double a Keeley Compressor Plus. That price is why it is so often cross-shopped, with the Keeley Compressor Plus, the Empress MkII (which some players even prefer by a hair) and the Wampler Ego among the usual alternatives; there are also Duel and Stacked Cali76 versions for two stages of compression.
