Wampler Tumnus Deluxe Transparent Overdrive

Über Wampler Tumnus Deluxe Transparent Overdrive

The Wampler Tumnus is Wampler's take on the Klon Centaur, a mid-forward overdrive and boost. It comes as the compact three-knob mini (V2) and as the Tumnus Deluxe, which adds a three-band EQ, a second higher-gain mode and a buffer/true-bypass switch. Though it is often sold as a transparent overdrive, owners are clear that, like all Klon-style pedals, it is not truly transparent: it has a mid-forward character that colours the sound.

Owners widely rate the Tumnus as the go-to Klon clone, often calling it the best in its price range and hard to beat, and for many it lives on the board as an always-on drive. They lean into its mid-forward voice rather than fight it: run always-on at low gain as a boost, for a singing lead tone, or to tighten up a distortion pedal. The Deluxe's three-band EQ is the main reason to step up, letting you recess mids and match your amp, but plenty of owners find the simpler mini V2 is all they need and a few even prefer it. It stacks happily with other low-gain drives, a common setup being a Tumnus into a Nobels ODR-1 with a small boost in front. Not everyone is sold, though: some find it twitchy or its sweet spot narrow, and a vocal group insist cheaper klones such as the Mosky or NUX sound just as good, especially in a band mix.
