Boss Space Echo

The Boss Space Echo pedals recreate the tape delay and spring reverb of the classic Roland RE-201, and owners hold them in high regard, one calling it the best pedal ever made and others simply phenomenal. The appeal is character: a warm, gently wobbling tape echo with built-in reverb that can sit at the center of a board's sound. The tradeoff owners raise is versatility. Next to a do-everything digital delay like a DD-8 it is more of a one-trick, situational pedal, though a glorious one. The line runs from the compact RE-2, which taps tempo by holding the switch, to the twin-footswitch RE-20 whose only real knock is its size, up to the RE-202 with more modes and MIDI.
