Boss RE-2 Space Echo

Über Boss RE-2 Space Echo

The Boss RE-2 Space Echo is a compact modern recreation of the classic Roland RE-201: a tape-echo emulation with virtual multi-heads and a built-in spring reverb, plus the wobble and self-oscillation of the original. It is a character delay, built like a tank. The larger RE-202 adds more control and MIDI presets.

Owners describe the Space Echo as a character machine: a compact recreation of the classic Roland RE-201 tape echo, with virtual multi-heads, a built-in spring reverb and all the wobble of the original, in a unit built like a tank. Plenty love it, calling it awesome or phenomenal and praising the expression control on the compact RE-2. Two things to know before buying. First, the intensity knob will run away into runaway self-oscillation past about noon, and some owners find the top half of that dial unusable, though it is also the source of those wild echo meltdowns. Second, it is more of a situational character machine than an everyday do-it-all delay, so if you want maximum versatility a Boss DD-8 covers more ground. On value it is cross-shopped with the cheaper Boss Tera Echo, and the same Space Echo algorithm also lives inside the Boss DD-500, DD-200 and RV-500. The larger RE-202 adds more control and MIDI.
