DigiTech Whammy 5 Pitch Shift

Über DigiTech Whammy 5 Pitch Shift

The DigiTech Whammy 5 is the classic Whammy pitch-shift pedal: a treadle sweeps your pitch up or down, up to a couple of octaves for dramatic dive-bomb and octave effects, and it also does harmony intervals and detune. Owners rate its tracking and latency among the best of any pitch pedal, and it draws around 265mA, so it wants a healthy power supply.

Owners enjoy the Whammy 5, one says he simply likes playing his, another calls it the best tracking and latency of any pitch pedal he has used, and it comes up as plenty of fun, especially paired with a Whammy DT. It sweeps pitch up or down for octave dives and harmonies, and works alongside a polyphonic octaver like a TC Sub'n'Up for different jobs. The practical tips owners share: put it first, or at least early, in the chain for the cleanest tracking, since the pedal can be a little noisy and early placement helps, and give it a proper power supply (it needs around 265mA), as an underpowered supply causes trouble. The honest caveat is mechanical, the treadle can develop a bit of clunky play over time, and one owner who could not resolve that ended up replacing his with a Whammy DT. But for expressive pitch bends and harmonies with strong tracking, it remains the standard.
