Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi

The Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi is the classic big-box fuzz, a thick, sustaining sound with famously scooped mids that carried records from Gilmour to Smashing Pumpkins and became a staple of shoegaze, doom and stoner rigs. Owners note that its scooped voice can sit behind a band, so a common move is to boost it with an overdrive out front or an EQ pushing the mids back in. The line spans many era voicings that owners pick between by taste: the brighter, more textured Triangle, the Ram's Head favored for leads and indie, the wild Op-Amp behind the Siamese Dream sound, and the dark, bottom-heavy Green Russian that leans doom. The recurring gripe is size, the original taking up the space of two or three normal pedals, which is why many reach for the smaller Nano or Russian boxes that run the same circuit.
