Ibanez TS Mini Tube Screamer

Über Ibanez TS Mini Tube Screamer

The Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini is the classic Tube Screamer shrunk into a tiny enclosure, running the same mid-humped overdrive circuit as the TS9 and TS808 with the familiar drive, tone and level knobs. Compared with the full-size versions it is true bypass, takes an ordinary center-negative 9V jack and drops the battery option, so it saves board space without changing the core sound.

Owners rate the TS Mini highly and keep calling it a great all-rounder, very good, an excellent boost. The recurring surprise is that it holds its own against the big boxes: owners who compared it side by side with a TS808 reissue or a Maxon 808 heard little to no difference, and more than one preferred the Mini for a clearer, more aggressive boost, so the common line is do not underestimate it. It is a touch brighter and less warm than its older siblings, which most find perfectly fine. The classic way to use it is as a low-gain boost in front of a bigger drive or a high-gain amp: set the gain low and the level up to tighten the low end and push the mids, a set-and-forget lead boost, and it stacks well ahead of a Muff or another distortion. The one caveat owners raise is that the mid hump and bass cut do not suit every rig; on some amps, a few name Mesas, it can sound boxy or thin out the low end, and those players reach for something like a Fulltone Fulldrive, a Wampler or a Horizon Precision Drive instead.
