MXR Carbon Copy

The MXR Carbon Copy is the go-to affordable analog delay, loved for a dark, warm repeat that sits behind your playing rather than on top of it. Owners say it excels at ambient, background delay and sounds especially good running into a slightly overdriven amp, while it is less suited to pristine or long rhythmic delays, and a few find it simply too dark. The standard has a hidden bright switch and modulation, and a Deluxe version adds tap tempo, longer delay and external controls. It shows up on so many boards partly because it nails the classic bucket-brigade sound for the money, though owners who want cleaner or more precise repeats tend to reach for a digital delay instead.
