Owners love the Aqua Puss for warm, analog slapback. It is a simple bucket-brigade delay, and its whole appeal is that warmth: more than one owner has kept theirs on the board for years and prefers it to digital delays that, to their ears, sound too clean, saying you cannot really beat the warmth of the Aqua Puss. Used as an always-on slapback it just works. Two things to know going in: like any analog delay it darkens your repeats, which is the point if you want warmth but a reason some players who need their dry tone perfectly intact look elsewhere, and it is mono in and out, so it does not drop straight into a stereo rig. On alternatives, it is the classic bucket-brigade delay cross-shopped with the MXR Carbon Copy and Ibanez AD9; owners find it so close to the Carbon Copy that some have swapped their CC for it, and even next to a modern digital delay a few still reach for the Aqua Puss for its character. If you want tap tempo and more control, the larger Supa Puss is the step up.
