Xotic EP Booster

Über Xotic EP Booster

The Xotic EP Booster is a tiny, simple boost pedal based on the preamp of the Echoplex tape echo. It is not a transparent clean boost: it colours the tone, adding girth, sparkle and output, and internal dip switches tune its EQ and gain. It has become a modern go-to for players who just want a little more.

Owners talk about the EP Booster the way they talk about few pedals: it is the little box that 'makes everything sound better.' Set it low and leave it always on and it adds girth and sparkle to your core tone; it is a favourite for lead players and, for many, the best boost they have used. Just know it is not transparent, it colours the sound, which is exactly why people run it always-on rather than as a clean lift. Placement is flexible and down to purpose: put it first (often dialed back) to enhance the tone and push your drives, or last, or in the loop, as a clean volume boost for solos, and plenty of owners keep one at each end. It flatters brighter rigs, single coils and Fender amps especially, and can be too much on an already-dark amp. If you want something cheaper, owners point to the TC Spark Mini booster, which adds a handy momentary footswitch for solo fills.
