About the Charvel San Dimas Style 1
The San Dimas Style 1 is a superstrat: a Strat-style bolt-on guitar with humbuckers and a Floyd Rose. Examples from 2010 and 2011 were made in Japan, with a one-piece quartersawn maple neck; production then moved to Mexico, where recent ones are made with a two-piece maple neck reinforced with two graphite rods. Mexican serials start with MC and the two-digit year (MC17 on a 2017, MC22 on a 2022).
It has an alder body, a licensed Fender Stratocaster headstock, a 25.5 inch scale and a speed neck with rolled fingerboard edges, 22 jumbo frets on a 12 to 16 inch compound radius, a 1 11/16 inch nut and a truss rod wheel at the heel. Boards are maple with black dots or ebony with white dots. A Seymour Duncan JB (bridge) and '59 (neck) are screwed straight to the body, wired to a volume whose push-pull splits the coils, a no-load tone that drops out at 10, and a three-way blade. The recessed double-locking Floyd Rose is an FRT-O2000 on earlier Mexican ones and a 1000 Series on later ones. Weighed examples come in at about 7.4 to 8.7 lb (3.4 to 3.9 kg), most 8 to 8.4 lb. New Mexican ones come with the tremolo arm but no case or gig bag. Common changes are a heavier brass tremolo block, noiseless springs and other pickups or wiring, so ask for the original parts, and check the neck pocket, where finish cracks and chips are common. Common finishes include Snow White, Chameleon and Matte Blue Frost.
