Gibson Les Paul Standard with '60s Neck Profile

Über Gibson Les Paul Standard with '60s Neck Profile

This is the Les Paul Standard with the slim '60s neck, made in Nashville; dated examples run from 2002 to 2008. It has a carved maple top on a mahogany back, a one-piece mahogany neck and a bound rosewood board with 22 frets and trapezoid inlays on a 24.75 inch scale and 12 inch radius. Two Burstbucker Pro humbuckers with Alnico V magnets run through two volumes, two tones and a three-way switch. Standard Plus versions have a more figured top. The pickguard came loose in the black Gibson hardshell case, and many tops were never drilled for it.

The '60s carve is a slim to medium C, not a flat, thin neck: about 0.79 to 0.84 inch deep at the first fret and 0.87 to 0.96 inch at the 12th. Bodies were not chambered until late 2006; weighed examples from 2002 to 2006 come in at about 8.3 to 10.4 lb (3.7 to 4.7 kg), chambered ones from 2007 and 2008 at 7.1 to 8.1 lb (3.2 to 3.7 kg).

The Limited Editions of 2004 to 2007 add an ebony board, a bound headstock with a crown inlay, white binding and metal-button tuners, in colors such as Manhattan Midnight, Pacific Reef and Santa Fe Sunrise, many numbered in runs of 275. Gecko Burst and Latte Creme were also regular finishes. Lacquer checking and spots where the finish reacted to a stand or cleaner turn up. Replaced pickups, often without the originals, are the most common change; new wiring, another bridge and locking tuners that leave marks follow.
