JHS Bonsai Overdrive

Über JHS Bonsai Overdrive

The JHS Bonsai is a nine-way Tube Screamer: nine different Tube Screamer-style circuits in one pedal, covering the classic versions (808, TS9, TS7, TS10 and more) plus JHS and other mods. It is a quiet overdrive that works across styles and doubles as a boost.

The Bonsai packs nine Tube Screamer flavours into one pedal, from the classic 808, TS9, TS7 and TS10 to JHS and other mods, so it covers pretty much every Tube Screamer version there is. Owners rate it as a great, versatile choice, a quiet overdrive that suits everything from blues and jazz to rock and metal, and a handy one-pedal answer when you want options or a foundation for stacking. The classic way to use it is TS-style: put it first with the gain low and the level up so it works as a mid-bump boost that pushes another drive, like a Blues Driver, and helps it cut through the mix. Two honest notes: the differences between the nine circuits are subtle, and some owners cannot hear much between them and reckon a single 808 (or the simpler JHS 3-Series Screamer) is more practical unless you are a collector; and watch the TS7 mode, which comes with a big volume jump.
