Martin 000-15M

Über Martin 000-15M

The 000-15M is Martin's all-solid mahogany 000 (Auditorium) guitar, made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania: solid mahogany top, back and sides, a 14-fret neck join, no binding and a dark mahogany satin finish.

A few details changed over the years. Examples dated 2008 to 2017 came with a Martin hardshell case; new ones come with a softshell case. Recent ones have Ping open-gear tuners with black plastic knobs in place of the butterbean knobs, and because of a supply shortage of the tortoise pickguard some have a black one. Current spec sheets name the neck wood only as select hardwood, where older ones say mahogany, and some have a morado fingerboard and bridge in place of East Indian rosewood. The serial dates it: about 1.35 million in 2008, 1.81 to 1.88 million in 2014 and 2015, 2.06 to 2.11 million in 2016 and 2017, and 2.43 million in 2020.

The build: non-scalloped A-frame X bracing in Sitka spruce, a dovetail neck joint, a 25.4 inch scale, 20 frets, a 1 11/16 inch nut and a Modified Low Oval neck; abalone diamond and square inlays, a bone nut and compensated bone saddle, nickel open-gear tuners, and frets Plek-dressed at the factory. Weighed examples come in at about 3.4 to 3.9 lb (1.6 to 1.8 kg). No pickup is standard; Fishman systems were factory options and some have one added later, so ask which it has, and ask whether it has any cracks, breaks or repairs.
