Strymon El Capistan V2

Über Strymon El Capistan V2

The Strymon El Capistan is a tape-echo pedal: it emulates vintage tape delays (Echoplex and Space Echo territory) with tape age, wow and flutter and three tape-head modes, and it includes a built-in spring reverb. It is Strymon's specialist for authentic tape-delay sounds, as opposed to the do-everything Timeline.

The El Capistan is the pedal owners reach for when they want real tape-echo character rather than a Swiss-army delay. It nails the old-school tape sound, and the built-in spring reverb is a genuinely useful bonus (it can even lean into reverb and chorus-ish textures). People love it, plain and simple: 'Capistan all day', 'by far my favorite'. It is also easy and quick to dial in, where the deeper Timeline needs more attention, and with an expression pedal you can push it into wild self-oscillation and record-scratch effects. The comparison that always comes up is exactly that: against the Timeline, the El Capistan is the dedicated tape delay, better-sounding and cheaper for that one job, while the Timeline is the multi-delay that does shimmer and everything else. Pick by which you actually want.
