Strymon Timeline Delay

Über Strymon Timeline Delay

The Strymon Timeline is Strymon's flagship multi-delay: a deep pedal with many delay types (digital, tape, analog bucket-brigade, reverse, shimmer and more), tap tempo, note subdivisions and preset storage. It is the delay counterpart to the Big Sky reverb and is very often paired with it in a rig.

Long-term owners rate the Timeline highly, several keeping it on the board for years and calling it worth every penny once you put the time in. That time is the catch: the flip side of its depth is complexity, and more than one owner describes hitting option paralysis with so many parameters. The recurring advice is about fit. If you want one pedal that does every kind of delay, the Timeline is it; but if you mainly want a single great delay, especially tape echo, the simpler and cheaper El Capistan is easier to use and, for tape specifically, better sounding. In a rig it is commonly run with a Big Sky (and often a Mobius) in the amp's effects loop, delay before reverb. One practical gotcha comes up repeatedly: it is power-hungry, so give it a proper isolated high-current supply (around 300 to 500 mA), because underpowering it causes glitches and misbehaviour.
