Universal Audio Ruby

Über Universal Audio Ruby

The Universal Audio UAFX Ruby is an amp-and-cab emulator pedal modeling a 1963 Vox AC30 Top Boost, with a built-in tremolo. It is meant to be used in place of an amp, running into a PA, an interface or a monitor, and it has no internal power amp so it cannot drive a cab on its own. Its onboard cab IRs can be switched off to run it as a preamp into a real amp's effects return.

Owners are enthusiastic about the Ruby, calling it seriously good and a highly recommended dedicated Vox sim, with one saying it beats a Kemper for that AC30 chime and others noting it has no perceptible latency alongside a real amp. It behaves like an amp: it takes pedals well and cleans up beautifully off the guitar volume, going from chimey clean to fuzz just by rolling the pot. It is built to replace an amp into a PA or interface, but owners also turn the cab sim off and four-cable-method it as a preamp into a real amp. It is part of the UAFX amp pedal line alongside the Marshall-style Lion and the tweed Woodrow, and the built-in tremolo gets singled out as a keeper.
