About the ESP E-II Eclipse

The E-II Eclipse is a single-cut from ESP's E-II line, the series formerly called ESP Standard, built at ESP's factory in Tokyo. It is set-thru: a mahogany body with a maple top, a Thin U mahogany neck, a 24.75 inch scale, 22 extra-jumbo frets on a 12 inch (305 mm) radius and a 42 mm (1.65 inch) bone nut, with flag inlays and a bound body, neck and matching headstock. Gotoh locking tuners, a Gotoh Tune-O-Matic and stop tailpiece, two volumes, a master tone and a three-way switch are standard.

What it has depends on year and finish. Examples dated 2013 to 2015 have a bound rosewood board; from 2018 on it is ebony, and recent ones have stainless steel frets. Active EMG 81 and 60 pickups are the long-running set. Burl, flamed maple and satin examples from 2019 on carry EMG 57TW and 66TW actives, each split by pulling its volume knob, while recent quilted See Thru Black Cherry Sunburst and Tiger Eye Sunburst ones have Fishman Fluence Modern actives with a push-pull tone knob for a second voicing.

Weighed examples run about 7.1 to 8.4 lb (3.2 to 3.8 kg), most at 8 lb or a little over. Most come with an ESP hard case, some with a gig bag instead. Pickup swaps are common, so ask for the original pickups and wiring. Check the finish on the back of the neck, the heel and the binding, where cracks and peeling turn up even on new guitars.
