About the Fender '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb

The '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb is Fender's tribute to its late 1960s silverface Deluxe Reverb, with the silver-and-turquoise panel and aluminum drip-edge grille trim the amp received in 1968, but it is not a straight copy of that amp. Three circuit changes matter. Both channels have the reverb and vibrato. The Custom channel uses a modified Bassman tone stack, while the Vintage channel keeps the traditional silverface voicing with its bright capacitor removed. And the negative feedback is reduced. The two channels are wired in phase, so an A/B/Y box can run them together. The Custom channel has volume, treble and bass; the Vintage channel adds the reverb, speed and intensity knobs, which serve both channels.

It is a 22 watt combo with four 12AX7 and two 12AT7 preamp tubes, two 6V6 power tubes and a 5AR4 rectifier, Groove Tubes from the factory, driving one 12 inch 8 ohm Celestion G12V-70. There are four inputs, two per channel, and two parallel speaker jacks. It is made in Mexico on a printed circuit board, with hand-wired tube sockets and Schumacher transformers, in a birch and pine cabinet covered in black textured vinyl. It weighs 42 lb (19 kg) and measures 17.5 x 24.5 x 9.5 inches. It comes with a two-button footswitch and a fitted cover, and the power cord is fixed to the amp. On a used one, ask what has been changed: the speaker is a common swap, and some have had the printed board replaced by a hand-wired one.
