About the Fender '68 Custom Princeton Reverb-Amp
The '68 Custom Princeton Reverb is Fender's tribute to its late 1960s silverface Princeton Reverb, with the silver-and-turquoise panel and aluminum drip-edge grille trim the amp received in 1968. It is a single-channel amp, so the changes sit in that one channel: a modified Bassman-style tone circuit meant to work with pedals, and reduced negative feedback. It is a 12 watt combo with three 12AX7 and one 12AT7 preamp tubes, two 6V6 power tubes and a 5AR4 rectifier, driving one 10 inch 8 ohm Celestion Ten 30 rated at 30 watts. The controls are volume, treble, bass, reverb, speed and intensity, and the reverb is a 4-spring tank. There are two inputs, the second 6 dB lower, and two parallel speaker jacks. It is made in Mexico with hand-wired tube sockets and Schumacher transformers, in a 7-ply birch and maple plywood cabinet covered in black textured vinyl, and weighs 34 lb at 16 x 19.875 x 9.5 inches. Limited editions change the covering and grille, and some fit a 12 inch Celestion in place of the Ten 30.
It comes with a two-button footswitch for reverb and vibrato and a fitted cover, so check that both come with a used one. The speaker is the part owners change most, for Celestion Greenback or Gold, Weber or Eminence models, so ask whether the original Ten 30 comes with it. Owners also swap the tubes for other brands.
