About the G&L USA Legacy
The USA Legacy is G&L's three single coil guitar, built in Fullerton, California, with dated examples from 1992 into the 2020s. The body is alder, or swamp ash as an option, on a hard-rock maple neck with a maple or rosewood board, 22 medium jumbo frets and a 25.5 inch scale. Three CLF-100 Alnico V single coils (the middle one reverse wound) run through a five-way switch, a volume and two passive controls that cut treble and bass in place of a tone pot. The vibrato is the Dual-Fulcrum with brass saddles. A semi-hollow version has a flamed maple top over a chambered ash body.
Early examples have a three-bolt neck joint with Micro-Tilt neck-angle adjustment. Two neck carves recur: the Modern Classic with a 1 11/16 inch nut and a 9.5 inch radius, and the #1 Classic C with a 1 5/8 inch nut and a 12 inch radius. Neck depths run about 0.80 to 0.88 inch at the first fret and 0.87 to 0.96 inch at the 12th; necks are satin as standard, and frets on many are dressed on a Plek machine. Solid bodies weigh about 7.4 to 9.1 lb (3.4 to 4.1 kg). Many were built to order, so specs vary and a build sheet records them. Serial numbers start with CLF, and the neck carries a factory date stamp. It comes in a hard case with the tremolo arm and a certificate of authenticity. Finish cracks around the neck pocket turn up often, and owners swap pickups, pickguards or tuners, often keeping the originals.
