About the Gibson SG Standard Bass
The SG Standard Bass is Gibson's short-scale SG-shaped bass, a US-made reissue of the 1960s EB-3 built from 2005; early ones were sold as the SG Reissue Bass. It has a solid mahogany body, a set mahogany neck with a rounded profile and a rosewood board with 20 frets and trapezoid inlays, on a 30.5 inch scale with a 12 inch radius and a 1.6 inch nut. A large humbucker at the neck and a mini humbucker at the bridge run through two volumes and a master tone, with a three-point adjustable bridge, Grover Shamrock tuners and a Graph Tech nut.
The pickups are listed as TB Plus (T-Bird Plus) and TB Mini on examples dated 2005 to 2015; current specs call them Rhythm SG Bass and Lead SG Bass. The 2015 model stands apart: a Babicz full-contact bridge, a thicker one-piece rosewood board with mother of pearl inlays, and a gold hardshell case. Weighed examples come in at about 6.9 to 8.4 lb (3.1 to 3.8 kg). Each comes in a Gibson hardshell case with paperwork such as the factory inspection sheet and manual. A common upgrade is a Babicz or Hipshot bridge, so ask whether the original three-point bridge comes with it. The usual finishes are Heritage Cherry and Ebony.
