About the Peavey T60 1980s
The T-60 was Peavey's first guitar, made in Meridian, Mississippi, from the late 1970s into the late 1980s, with bodies and necks carved by computer-controlled machines. The body is ash, glued up from three or more pieces, with a bolt-on neck laminated from two pieces of maple and a tilt adjustment for the neck angle, a maple or rosewood board, a 25.5 inch scale, a 12 inch radius and a metal nut. Measured necks run about 0.72 to 0.75 inch deep at the first fret and 0.79 to 0.85 inch at the 12th, with nut widths of about 1.63 to 1.69 inch. Strings run through the body into a die-cast bridge with six adjustable saddles. Weighed examples come in at about 8.1 to 10.4 lb (3.7 to 4.7 kg).
Two epoxy-potted humbuckers each have a volume and a tone, with a three-way switch and a small switch that puts the bridge pickup out of phase. Each tone control also moves its pickup between humbucking and single-coil sound; the original manual puts single coil at 10 and full humbucking at about 7. Earlier ones have toaster-style pickup covers, later ones exposed blade pickups. The original case is a molded plastic hard case known as the chainsaw case. Worn or grooved frets in the first positions turn up often, and many have had the frets levelled. The phase switch is often replaced or found dead, and replaced pickups, pickguards or knobs are common.
