Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster

About the Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster

Squier has built the Affinity Series Stratocaster in both China and Indonesia: China-made examples run from 2004 to 2018, Indonesian ones from 2007 into the 2020s. The two digits after the letters in the serial give the year, so CY04 is a 2004 and IC07 a 2007.

The guitar changed along the way. Earlier ones have a six-saddle vintage-style tremolo and standard die-cast tuners; the current edition has a thin, light poplar body, a two-point tremolo with block saddles, sealed split-shaft tuners and ceramic single coils. The body is alder in some years and poplar in others, and the dark board is rosewood on older ones and Indian laurel on later ones, and maple boards are common too. From 2013 it gained a two-color headstock logo and a three-ply white, black and white pickguard, and some have a large headstock rather than the standard size.

It has a satin C-shape maple neck with a 25.5 inch scale, a 9.5 inch radius and 21 medium jumbo frets, three single coils, a master volume, two tones and a five-way switch. Weighed examples come in at about 6.5 to 7.5 lb (2.9 to 3.4 kg). Many have served as a base for upgrades, with new pickups, tuners, heavier tremolo blocks or rewired controls, so ask what is original. Common colors include Olympic White, Lake Placid Blue and Black, and limited special runs turn up with their own colors or a pearloid pickguard.
