About the Tokai SG SG-60

The SG-60 is Tokai's Japanese-built SG, made in the 1980s (1982 and 1985 examples, one in cream that is yellowing with age) and again around 2002, with a set neck; a 2002 weighs 6 lb 3 oz. The current Chinese-built USG58 is its budget descendant, built under Japanese quality control. Owners date theirs to 1982, 1984, 1985 and 2002.

The best-priced as cards, a row of them; every other ad as a line, by ask. Each ask is the seller’s own number; the platform’s mark opens the listing. Each one says when we last confirmed it at its source: the price and availability are from that visit, so check the marketplace before you go.

No typical price yet for this one, so: one email when a new listing appears, with its ask. Never more than one a day. No account; a link to stop in every email.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 14 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 4 discussion threads among 5 owners, 2023-2026. No names, nothing quoted.

A 2002 SG60 replaced a 9 lb Yamaha SG that had put its owner off playing, three pounds lighter and just gorgeous to play; a 1984 plays really beautifully in unmodified condition, a 1982 is called lovely, and an 85 owner rates it a little better than the Chinese USG58.
