About the Vox AC15C1 Custom

The AC15C1 is Vox's 15 watt all-tube 1x12 combo: three 12AX7 preamp tubes and two EL84 power tubes drive a 16 ohm, 25 watt Celestion G12M Greenback. The Normal channel has a volume control and the Top Boost channel volume, treble and bass; both share a master volume and a Tone Cut that works in the power stage. Spring reverb has a level control and the tremolo speed and depth. Of the two speaker outputs, the switchable 8/16 ohm external jack mutes the internal speaker, while the extension jack runs a 16 ohm cabinet alongside it. It is made in China, and spec sheets give 602 x 265 x 456 mm (23.7 x 10.43 x 17.95 inches) and 22 kg (48.5 lb).

A new one comes without the footswitch: the VFS2 or VFS2A turns reverb and tremolo on and off, and used ones often come with it and a cover. The speaker is the part owners swap most, for Weber, Celestion, Tayden or Bad Cat models. Retubing is routine, often with matched JJ or Sovtek sets or Tube Boutique kits, and a common mod replaces the stock reverb tank with a three-spring Mod tank. Some limited editions (cream, white Bronco, tan and Vintage Black) carry a 65 watt Celestion G12M-65 Creamback instead of the Greenback; other limited color runs, such as purple, rich blue, red and British Racing Green, keep the usual Greenback.
