Strymon Sunset Dual Overdrive

Über Strymon Sunset Dual Overdrive

The Strymon Sunset is a dual overdrive: two independent drive channels, each with a choice of classic overdrive voicings (a Tube Screamer style, a treble boost, a germanium and a two-stage among them) that can be stacked. It also has a built-in noise gate and preset and routing options, and it runs from a clean boost up to high gain.

Owners love the Sunset for how much drive lives in one box: two channels, a stack of classic overdrive voicings, from clean boost to genuine high gain, plus a built-in noise gate and presets. That versatility is the headline, and it comes up again and again, one owner who had been through 75 pedals was surprised how good it is and how well it works with any guitar, and plenty call it one of their favourite drives or flat out a GOAT. The comparison people always want is with its sibling the Riverside: the Sunset is the more versatile dual overdrive with more distortion voicings, while the Riverside is a single drive-and-distortion with more EQ control and a footswitchable boost. Owners split on which they prefer, some like the Riverside's tone better, some the Sunset's flexibility, and a few just do not get on with digital drive at all. It is not for everyone: a couple of owners could not click with it or prefer a simpler analog drive, and it can be a little noisy, which is part of why the built-in gate is welcome.
