Walrus Audio Julia Chorus / Vibrato V2

Über Walrus Audio Julia Chorus / Vibrato V2

The Walrus Audio Julia is a BBD analog chorus and vibrato with a distinctive D-C-V blend knob that sweeps from pure chorus to pure vibrato (with any mix in between), plus a Lag control that sets the character of the delay line and the usual rate and depth. It has a warpy, watery, slightly wonky analog voice, and, like most bucket-brigade pedals, it rolls the highs off the wet signal. The bigger Julianna adds stereo, tap tempo, presets and a random waveform, and the Polychrome is the flanger sibling.

The Julia (and its bigger sister the Julianna) is a beloved modulation pedal here, one owner who had tried them all plugged in the Julianna and it was an instant BINGO, best chorus ever, others simply love theirs, highly recommend them, and call them a lot of fun, if a bit expensive. What keeps people coming back is a warpy, wonky, watery character no cleaner chorus quite matches. The D-C-V blend is the heart of it: a favorite setting is mostly vibrato with a touch of chorus. Owners share a couple of placement tips, run it pre-dirt (before your drives) so it stays watery on cleans but subtle under gain, or turn the lag and rate up and put it after a drive and let it rip, since a bit of distortion after the pedal actually brings its rolled-off highs back to life. If you are choosing, several owners note the standard Julia has the core sound and the Julianna's stereo, tap and presets may be extras you won't use. The honest caveats: being BBD it is darker on top, so players chasing more high end look at a Behringer UV300, a Boss VB-2W or a TC SCF+, and a couple find it on the noisy side. For that classic Walrus warble, though, it is a keeper.
