About the Eastman SB59/v
The SB59/v is Eastman's first solid body: a single cutaway with an unchambered one-piece mahogany body under a carved solid flame maple top. The one-piece mahogany neck has the Traditional Even C profile and an ebony board with a 12 inch radius, 22 Jescar medium jumbo frets and pearl crown inlays on a 24 3/4 inch scale; the bone nut is 1 11/16 inch (42.8 mm) wide, and ivoroid binding runs around the top and the neck. Hardware is aged nickel Gotoh Relic: a tune-o-matic bridge, a GE101A stop tailpiece and SD90 tuners. Two volume and two tone controls run on CTS 500K pots with Sprague Orange Drop capacitors and a Switchcraft switch and jack. It is made in Eastman's workshops around Beijing, and some production runs use one-piece okoume instead of mahogany for the body and neck.
The finish is Eastman's antique varnish, nitro color coats under thin French-polished top coats, and the wear on it and on the hardware is applied at the factory. The first ones came with Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers, and later ones have custom-wound, aged Lollar Imperials. Weighed examples come in at about 7.5 to 9 lb (3.4 to 4.1 kg). It comes in an Eastman hard case with a certificate of authenticity. Finishes are Antique Classic, Goldburst (-GB), Antique Amber (-AMB) and Black (-BK). The usual change is new pickups (ThroBak, Bare Knuckle, Romain or other Lollar winds), sometimes with a new wiring harness; on a modified one the original parts do not always come along.
