Fender Twin Reverb

About the Fender Twin Reverb

Black panel Twin Reverbs are the mid 1960s amps, rated 85 watts; in 1968 Fender changed to the silver panel, made into the early 1980s. What follows is for silver panel amps. They run four 6L6 power tubes, a solid-state rectifier, 7025, 12AX7 and 12AT7 preamp tubes and two 12 inch speakers. Normal and Vibrato channels each have two inputs, a bright switch, volume, treble, middle and bass; reverb, speed and intensity sit on the Vibrato channel. Schumacher transformer codes read 606, the year's last digit and the week (606 838 is week 38 of 1978).

The first 1968 amps have an aluminum trim around the grille cloth and an altered output circuit that lasted about a year. Through 1971 they keep the AB763 black panel circuit with no master volume; up to 1976 they are rated 100 watts. A master volume came in 1972, often with a push/pull boost, and from about 1977 an ultralinear output stage brought 135 watts. The faceplate is aluminum with blue lettering, the grille cloth silver with a blue thread, and the cabinet has tilt-back legs. Stock speakers were Fender-labelled Oxford, Utah, Jensen or Eminence units, and weighed combos come in at about 70 to 73 lb (32 to 33 kg).

The two-button reverb and vibrato footswitch is often lost or replaced. A recap is routine, many have a grounded cord, often without the death cap, and tremolo roaches and reverb tanks get replaced. Many have the blackface mod, swapped speakers (Celestion, Jensen C12N, Weber, Eminence) or a chassis moved into a head cabinet.
