About the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar
The Vintage Modified Jaguar was made in Indonesia and is now discontinued. It has a basswood body, a bolt-on maple neck with a C profile and vintage-tint gloss, a 24 inch scale, a 1.65 inch (42 mm) nut and a 9.5 inch radius board with 22 medium jumbo frets and parchment dots. Boards are rosewood or Indian laurel, catalogued as separate models. Two Duncan Designed JG-101 single coils run through the two Jaguar circuits: the lead circuit has an on/off switch per pickup, volume, tone and a tone switch; the rhythm circuit plays the neck pickup alone on its own wheels. A six-saddle bridge leads to a non-locking floating vibrato; hardware is chrome. Factory colors are Surf Green and Candy Apple Red with a white-black-white guard, and Olympic White and 3-Color Sunburst with a 4-ply tortoiseshell one.
Weighed examples come in at about 8.1 to 8.7 lb (3.7 to 3.9 kg). A new one has no case or gig bag; the vibrato arm and wrenches are in the box, with 9 to 42 strings fitted. The stock bridge is the known weak point: strings buzz or jump out of the saddles when played hard, worse with light strings. The usual fixes are 10s or 11s, a Mustang-style or Staytrem bridge, and a Buzz Stop on the vibrato. Owners also swap pickups and wiring, and some bodies have been refinished in nitro with a matching headstock. Many were sold factory refurbished, with a small used stamp on the back of the headstock and a new serial number.
