About the Tokai Cat's Eyes CE-1000
The Cat's Eyes CE-1000 is a Martin-style dreadnought Tokai built in Japan in the mid-to-late 1970s, the best years for the line are put at 1975 to 1984, with a solid top (every Cat's Eyes from the CE-500 up has one) and, on the 1976 example, all-solid construction, though Japanese makers often used laminated back and sides even on high-end models; the CE-1000D adds abalone inlay around the top. Tokai's Martin connection is real, it built Sigma guitars under licence for the Japanese market and applied the same methods to its own line, and a Snappy is a Cat's Eyes downgraded by quality control for a blemish. Owners date theirs to 1976 and 1977.
