About the Akai MPC Live II Standalone Sampler / Sequencer
The MPC Live II is a standalone sampler and sequencer that needs no computer, and also works as a controller for the MPC software on Mac or PC. It has a 7-inch multitouch screen, 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive RGB pads, four touch-sensitive Q-Link knobs, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. Against the first MPC Live it adds built-in stereo speakers, which can be switched off, CV/gate outputs and more hardware buttons. Connections include 1/4 inch and RCA inputs with a phono/line switch, six 1/4 inch outputs in three stereo pairs, two MIDI ins and two MIDI outs, four 3.5 mm CV/gate jacks giving 8 outputs, USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It runs on its lithium-ion battery or the included 19 V, 3.42 A adapter; the box also holds a USB cable and a quick start guide.
Firmware 2.10 added 14 plug-ins (four instruments and an AIR vocal suite among them) and recording through class-compliant USB audio interfaces; MPC 3 brought a Linear Song Arranger, Studio Mixer, Advanced Keygroups and Native Instruments instruments and expansions. Used units turn up on older 2.x firmware or on MPC 3 (3.4.3 in 2025), and any can be updated. Registering the hardware to an Akai Pro account unlocks the computer software and the bundled plug-ins and expansions. Storage grows through an SD card slot, USB drives and an internal 2.5 inch SATA bay; owners often fit an SSD of 256 GB to 2 TB filled with expansions. A Decksaver cover is the usual add-on, and a limited Gold edition was also made.
