Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner

Über Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner

The Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner is the industry-standard pedal tuner: a rugged, accurate chromatic tuner in a Boss compact enclosure, with a bright LED meter, a high-brightness mode for outdoor stages, and a built-in buffer. A handy touch is the second power output jack, which lets the tuner distribute power to the rest of your board through a parallel (daisy-chain) cable. It succeeded the long-running TU-2, and there is a TU-3W Waza Craft version with a few extra features.

Ask this group for a tuner and the TU-3 is the default answer, and owners are blunt about why: it is the industry standard for a reason. The recurring praise is reliability, people say theirs has never failed in years or even decades of use, that Boss tuners are tough as anything and accurate, and that it is simply all they need. Two practical tips come up a lot: put it first in the chain so its buffer drives your cable run, and use the tuner's second power jack to daisy-chain power to the rest of your pedals through a parallel cable, saving a separate supply. The honest caveats are about the competition and the size. It tunes one string at a time, so owners who want polyphonic tuning, a brighter display or a hair more accuracy lean toward a TC Polytune or a Peterson, and because the TU-3 sits fairly tall on a board, a few who kept knocking it swapped to a mini tuner like a Polytune Mini. None of that is really a knock on the tuner, more that any decent tuner does the job, and this is the one most people trust.
