Dunlop SW95 Slash Signature Cry Baby Wah

Über Dunlop SW95 Slash Signature Cry Baby Wah

The SW95 was the first Slash signature Cry Baby: a red wah on 18 volts with a switchable distortion circuit (gain, tone and volume knobs) that only works with the wah engaged, built around a red Fasel inductor. The later SC95 Classic in distressed red and black, also sold as a plain red limited SC95R, drops the distortion, runs on 9 volts and adds true bypass. The artist plays neither on stage: his rig uses a Dunlop rack wah, sometimes with the controller housed in a signature shell, and in the Use Your Illusion years an EMB rack wah.

Asked SW95 or SC95, owners answer SC95 almost every time: owners of both find the SW95 sharp and harsh, never use its distortion, dislike the 18 volt supply and mostly sold it, keeping the SC95 as the closer match to the artist's 80s and 90s wah sound. Its defenders say it has the wider sweep and more growl, and that the distortion is a line boost that people misuse. When one goes limp or loses volume, a pot swap for the price of a set of strings brings it back; switch failures on the red pedal are common.
