Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork Polyphonic Pitch Shift

Über Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork Polyphonic Pitch Shift

The Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork is a polyphonic pitch shifter and octaver: it transposes your whole chord up or down, with modes for octaves, detune and harmony. Held in momentary mode the footswitch acts like a small whammy with no separate controller needed, and there is an expression pedal input for sweeps. It comes in a few forms: the original Pitch Fork, the Pitch Fork Plus with finer, preset cent amounts, and the compact Pico Pitchfork.

Owners love the Pitch Fork and keep coming back to one word for it: versatile. Beyond straight octave-up and octave-down it detunes, harmonises and, held in momentary mode, doubles as a small whammy without an expression pedal, though owners say adding one is the way to really use it, one gets great 70s psychedelic sounds that way. The Plus adds finer, preset cent amounts over the original, and there is a tiny Pico version. The one thing owners repeat is placement: put it early, right after the wah or volume pedal, because it wants a clean signal to track well, and you will hear a real difference running it before rather than after your overdrive. It is not the only game in town. For simple drop-tuning some prefer the TC The Drop, and an EHX POG tracks polyphonic chords a touch tighter, though owners tend to find the Pitch Fork more natural and more versatile.
