About the Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet BT with V-Stoptail
The G5220 is Gretsch's single-cut Electromatic Jet with a fixed V-Stoptail tailpiece, made in China. The body is chambered mahogany with an arched laminated maple top, 1.85 inch (47 mm) deep. The set mahogany neck has a thin U profile, a 24.6 inch scale, a 12 inch radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, pearloid big block inlays and a 1.6875 inch (42.86 mm) synthetic bone nut, and it sits deeper in the body for easier access to the top frets. Two Black Top Broad'Tron humbuckers each have a volume, with a master volume carrying a treble bleed circuit, a master tone and a three-way toggle. The Adjusto-Matic bridge is anchored to the body ahead of the V-Stoptail.
One change matters when you buy one: early examples, including 2019 ones, have a black walnut fingerboard, and later ones have laurel. Most weighed examples come in at about 7.9 to 8.7 lb (3.6 to 3.9 kg). It is sold new without a case; the optional ones are the G6238FT hardshell and the G2164 gig bag. Some owners replace the Broad'Trons, for example with Filter'Tron, TV Jones or GFS pickups. Finishes include Jade Grey Metallic, Casino Gold, Dark Cherry Metallic, Midnight Sapphire, Bristol Fog, Firestick Red, Sweet Tea and Olive Metallic. Most colors have a silver plexi pickguard; Bristol Fog has a black one with silver logos.
