Why this number?

The typical used price is the median of 22 used sales observed in the last 24 months, with outliers removed and the figure rounded. An observed sale is often the last asking price rather than a confirmed hammer price.

About the MXR 10 Band EQ

The MXR 10 Band EQ is a ten-band graphic EQ (31Hz to 16kHz, plus or minus 12dB) with separate Volume and Gain sliders, so it shapes tone with far more precision than a tone knob and can also work as a clean boost. It is a board staple, known just as much for its famously bright slider LEDs.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 432 discussion threads among 15 owners, 2024-2025. No names, nothing quoted.

Owners are close to unanimous that adding this EQ is 100 percent worth it, the classic reaction being that they wonder why they did not do it sooner, and more than a few never turn theirs off. Beyond the ten bands it has Volume and Gain sliders, which is why owners rate it over cheaper or six-band EQs, and many call it the standard, the purest EQ they have used. Placement is flexible: after the drives to shape their tone, in the amp's effects loop, or first in the chain, and it doubles as a clean volume boost. The one usage tip everyone repeats is to EQ subtractively, cut the frequencies you do not want rather than boosting, because boosting (especially the highs) raises noise; a common move is to pull the outer 31Hz and 16kHz bands right down since they mostly add hiss for guitar. Two quirks: the sliders' LEDs are searingly bright (owners dim them with nail polish or marker, swap them, run the pedal at 9V to keep them off, or buy the red-LED KFK version), and a few units get noisy, which removing the LEDs is said to fix. Budget clones like the Donner and Caline do much the same job for less.
