About the Tokai TTE-50

The TTE-50 is the 50-grade Breezysound Telecaster of 1984 to 1986, the Goldstar-era successor to the TE-50: an ashtray-type bridge (six-saddle on the earlier ones), machine-wound U-stamped pickups, and on the 1986 fifties reissue no neck-plate serial at all, a cost saving on the 50 grade, where the 60 and up kept serial plates, but a gold Made in Japan sticker instead. The name lives on in modern Japanese production: a TTE-50 of 2013 is a 62-style slab-rosewood-board model with flat-top knobs and no brass saddles, with the truss rod adjusted at the heel on the export TTE where the Japan-market ATE adjusts at the headstock; importers can choose headstock shape and even model number when ordering, so recent reissues do not appear in any catalogue. Owners date theirs to 1984 and 1986, with modern examples from 2013.

The best-priced as cards, a row of them; every other ad as a line, by ask. Each ask is the seller’s own number; the platform’s mark opens the listing. Each one says when we last confirmed it at its source: the price and availability are from that visit, so check the marketplace before you go.

No typical price yet for this one, so: one email when a new listing appears, with its ask. Never more than one a day. No account; a link to stop in every email.

Every recorded sale, one point each: 8 of them, placed by the day the ad went up. Too few sales to draw a trend through them without inventing one, so the points speak for themselves. Condition is mixed, so some of the spread is a mint against a fair rather than the market moving.

What owners have said elsewhere

Paraphrased from 6 discussion threads among 9 owners, 2022-2024. No names, nothing quoted.

A modern TTE-50 picked up unplayed cleaned up a treat and left its buyer blown away by how good it is; a 1984 is called lovely by the owner who bought it to restore, and a shop-find 1986 sounded and played well enough to be bought on the spot despite a six-saddle bridge that gave a sitar buzz on some strings.
