Boss DD-200 Digital Delay

Über Boss DD-200 Digital Delay

The Boss DD-200 is a compact digital delay with a full set of delay modes, from tape, analog and space echo to a Tera Echo and ducking, four memory presets, tap tempo (it takes an external tap switch), and delay times you can set in milliseconds or in BPM. It runs in stereo, has MIDI and a readout display, and is built like a tank. It is the affordable sibling of the flagship DD-500.

The DD-200 is a quiet favorite here, and owners think it is underrated: they call it awesome with outstanding delay modes, genuinely love it (one says he thinks about swapping other pedals but never his delay), and rate it the best bang for the buck, reasonably priced, easy to use, great sounding and built like a tank. More than one owner has had theirs for years and never taken it off the board. The flexibility is the draw, you can set times in milliseconds or BPM, store four presets, and there is a mode for nearly everything. Tips owners share: add an external switch for tap tempo, and run it in stereo into a stereo DI (a Walrus Canvas is mentioned) so front-of-house gets a wide, 3D delay. The honest caveats are about live use and feel: it leans on saved presets, so it takes some prep for a gig, its two-button, non-standard layout means scrolling rather than grabbing a knob, which not everyone enjoys, and one owner found the standalone Boss Tera Echo pedal better than the DD-200's version of that sound. For the money, though, it does nearly everything a delay can.
