Owners are split on the OD-3. Its fans keep it on the board permanently, and a few prefer it to the SD-1 or would pick it as their single overdrive if forced to choose. Its critics find it too bright and fizzy, or say it scoops the low end and mids the way a Tube Screamer does, and one or two simply do not get on with it. Where most people agree is the stack: run a mid-focused SD-1 into the OD-3 and the SD-1 tightens the OD-3's big low end and pushes the mids so it cuts through, which is why the SD-1 into OD-3 pairing gets called a dream lead tone. If you try it, set the SD-1 low, like an amp on the edge of breakup, keep a clean boost back for solos, and be ready to experiment with whether the SD-1 sits before or after the OD-3, since the last pedal in the chain colours the sound the most.
