Boss VB-2W Waza Craft Vibrato

Über Boss VB-2W Waza Craft Vibrato

The Boss VB-2W is the Waza Craft reissue of the rare, collectable VB-2 Vibrato, a true pitch vibrato (it bends pitch rather than blending in a chorus). It has a toggle for the original circuit or a Custom mode, and, unlike the original VB-2, its Waza Bypass takes the bucket-brigade chip out of the signal path when the pedal is off. Real vintage VB-2s run four to five hundred dollars, so the Waza is both easier to find and more affordable, and a Behringer UV300 is a well-regarded budget clone.

Vibrato fans rate the VB-2W highly, owners call it well worth the money and, in one case, one of the best vibratos out there alongside a Diamond Vibrato, and it is often grouped with the CE-2W and HM-2W as a Waza reissue that is 100 percent worth it (because the originals are rare and expensive). It sounds, in one owner's words, soooo good, and the classic move is to turn the rate all the way down and the depth all the way up for a deep, lush vibrato. Owners note the Standard mode gives the original voice, and the Waza Bypass finally takes the bucket-brigade chip out of the path when it's off, which the vintage VB-2 never did. The honest caveat is price: it is not cheap, and a Behringer UV300 is an excellent, inexpensive VB-2 clone (with arguably a touch more high end), while a Diamond Vibrato or a Walrus Julia's vibrato setting are other routes. For an authentic VB-2 without hunting a vintage unit, though, owners consider it the one to get.
