The Rainbow Machine is EQD's deliberately weird polyphonic pitch-shifting modulator. It adds pitch-shifted harmonies and octaves, detuning and shimmer, and has a magic button that sends it into self-oscillating regeneration; owners often frame it, half-jokingly, as a novelty or a hitting-the-bong pedal. It genuinely splits the room: some love it as a favourite weird secret weapon and use it regularly, while others write it off as one of the most useless pedals they own. Tamed, though, it is more than a gimmick. Set the pitch shift just above or below unity with a short delay and it makes a superb chorus, and crank the magic button for self-oscillating chaos. It is a natural for ambient, shoegaze and experimental noise.
