Electro-Harmonix EH4600 Small Clone Full Chorus

About the Electro-Harmonix EH4600 Small Clone Full Chorus

The EHX Small Clone is a simple analog chorus with a single Rate knob and a Depth switch. That switch gives it two voices, subtle and wavery or deep and wobbly, with little in between. It sits well on top of distortion and is famous as the chorus Kurt Cobain used with Nirvana.

Owners rate the Small Clone as a classic, with more than one calling it maybe the best chorus ever and keeping it always on. Its charm is its simplicity: a Rate knob and a Depth switch that flips between a subtle, wavery shimmer that suits open clean chords and a deep, wobbly warble that works as a psychedelic faux-vibrato over gritty riffs, and it famously sits on top of distortion better than many, which is a big part of why it became the Kurt Cobain chorus. The one universal gripe is the switching noise: a loud thunk or click when you engage it, which owners work around by turning it on before the amp is powered up or while the amp is on standby. It is also deliberately basic rather than versatile, and a few feel it is a little overpriced for what it is thanks to the Cobain link; if you want a smaller footprint owners point to the Nano Clone, and the Neo Clone uses the same circuit.
