The typical used price is the median of 9 used sales observed in the last 6 months, with outliers removed and the figure rounded. An observed sale is often the last asking price rather than a confirmed hammer price.

About the Fender Competition Mustang
Fender introduced the Competition Mustang in 1969, a Mustang with a racing stripe and new colours, and made it in Fullerton, California into the early 1970s. There were three colours: Competition Red with white stripes, Competition Burgundy (a blue, with light blue stripes) and Competition Orange with a red stripe, which Fender described as yellow. Burgundy usually ages toward green, teal or turquoise. Early ones have a headstock painted to match the body; later ones have a plain headstock.
Most necks have a 24 inch scale, a 1 5/8 inch nut and a 7.25 inch radius rosewood board; a few carry the uncommon 22.5 inch neck. Measured necks are about 1.61 inch (41 mm) at the nut and 0.80 to 0.91 inch deep at the first fret; weighed examples run about 6.7 to 7.6 lb (3.0 to 3.5 kg), most near 7 lb. Each single coil has its own on/off/on phase switch; original pickups have gray bobbins, often date-stamped, and read about 5.4 to 6.3 k ohms. The guard is pearloid and the nitrocellulose finish mostly shows fine cracking. The neck heel carries a stamped date, and pots in 1969 and 1970 guitars often date from 1966 or 1967 old stock. Original 1970s tuners are F-stamped, with white buttons. The case is gray or silver tolex with an orange or red lining; complete ones keep the vibrato arm and chrome bridge cover. Guards shrink, finish damage under them turns up, and refrets, new nuts, replaced pickups and replaced tuners are common.
